Before Amen by Max Lucado

I received this book in exchange for my honest review. Read my full disclosure policy here.

Before Amen: The Power of a Simple Prayer by Max Lucado is Family Christian’s Book of the Year for 2015. As usual, Mr. Lucado takes simple concepts and brings them to life in a way that ministers to a believer’s soul. This is an easy read, but I am sure that I could read it a dozen times and be blessed with a new message every time.

The chapter titles are simple words that one might say in a prayer, but they are full of meaning. “I Need Me,” “Help Me,” “They Need Help,” and “Thank You” are among those titles. My favorite was “3: You Are Good” and it reminded me that our Heavenly Father is trustworthy beyond anything we can imagine. There is no need to worry EVER, no matter how bad things get, because He is in control. It brought to mind these verses from Matthew 7:

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?

11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children,

how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

This book would be a good read for anyone who needs encouragement. It would be a perfect gift for a new believer or a seasoned saint, anyone who is struggling or hurting. I highly recommend this book and would love to hear from you when you have read it.
